The Cubs salvaged one game in Milwaukee thanks to a four run 3rd inning, highlighted by Alfonso Soriano’s monster 2-run YAK EM!!! which tied the game at 2-2. Milton Bradley capped the scoring with an RBI single. Those four runs would be more than enough for Sean “Shaggy” Marshall who earned his first win of the year to improve to 1-2 on the season. Marshall went 5 innings, giving up two runs and striking out 4. Jeff Suppan (2-3) took the loss for the Brewers.

The much maligned Cubs bullpen turned out a great effort today as they threw four scoreless frames. Angel Guzman continued to show his desire to be a dependable weapon in the pen as he threw two perfect innings with two Ks. Carlos Marmol continued to get back on track with a scoreless 8th and closer Kevin Gregg threw a great 9th to earn his 6th save.
With the win today, the Cubs (17-14) managed a winning road trip at 3-2 and have an off day on Monday, but return to action Tuesday when they welcome the San Diego Padres (13-19). The Cubs still have injury issues to work out as Aramis Ramirez looks to be out for some time with his dislocated shoulder, however an MRI revealed no further structural damage beyond the dislocation. First baseman Derrek Lee did not play at all against Milwaukee and is in Chicago for further testing on his neck spasms.
