Back on May 9th, in the fifth inning of the Cubs-Brewers game, the following exchange occurred between Len Kasper and Bob Brenly:
Bob: Well Len I don’t do this often but I’m makin’ the call. I think Micah Hoffpauir is gonna hit one waaay back right here.
Len: Yeah he’s just missed he does have a double tonight, flied to center his last time…and a high drive to right. Are you gonna be right?? You…CALLED IT PARTNER!! On the very next pitch, 3-2! Nicely done.
Bob: (Chuckles)
Today, June 20th, Bob did it again. With the Cubs down 3-2 to the Indians in the bottom of the sixth, Hoffpauir pinch hit for Ted Lilly with a runner on against Tomo Ohka. The exchange went as follows:
Bob: I’m startin’ to get that funny feeling again Len. I just think this is a good matchup for Micah. If he gets a pitch he can drive I think he’s gonna put a heck of a swing on it right here.
Len: Ooooh. He did but he missed it. Three and Two. Still have that feeling?
Bob: Yeah. It’s hard to call homeruns for a guy that doesn’t get regular at bats. That’s an awful lot to ask but I just like this matchup.
Len: The 3-2 to Hoffpauir, HIGH IN THE AIR DEEP TO RIGHT AND BOB’S RIGHT AGAIN!!!! AND THE CUBS LEAD 4-3!!! I thought you had indigestion, but you had the right feeling!
Bob Brenly, now 2-for-2 on calling YAK EM!s on the season….
The Cubs went on to win the game 6-5 in 13 innings over the Indians courtesy of Kerry Wood’s second blown save in as many days. Chicago is 5-5 in extra innings in 2009 and are now 33-31 and in a three way tie (in the loss column) with St. Louis and Milwaukee for the division lead.
