Team USA will take on the New York Yankees today at 1:15 in their first exhibition game before the start of the World Baseball Classic on Saturday. Their other two exhibitions will be tomorrow against the Blue Jays in Dunedin (1:05) and on Thursday vs. the Phillies in Clearwater (12:05).
Roy Oswalt will get the start today for Team USA. Also scheduled to pitch this afternoon are RHP Jonathan Broxton, RHP Matt Lindstrom,
RHP Brad Ziegler, LHP Matt Thornton and RHP LaTroy Hawkins.
In roster moves, OF Brad Hawpe, RHP Joe Nathan, LHP B.J. Ryan and OF Grady Sizemore have been taken off the original 27-player roster. They were replaced by 1B/OF Adam Dunn, OF Shane Victorino, RHP Joel Hanrahan and RHP LaTroy Hawkins. RHP Heath Bell and LHP John Grabow also have been added to the spring training camp roster. Team USA’s roster will be at the 28-player limit by Friday.
The 16-team 2009 World Baseball Classic begins in Tokyo on Thursday, in San Juan and Toronto on Saturday and in Mexico City on Sunday. The second round begins in Miami on Sat, 3/14 and in San Diego on Sun, 3/15. The semifinals are Sat, 3/21 & Sun, 3/22 and the final on 3/23, all at Dodger Stadium.
