Just a quick post to address all the prune-nutted haters who have been givin’ it to Bill Belichick the past couple days.

Here’s what I don’t understand about those who are complaining he should have punted and let the defense win the game: that “he didn’t believe in his defense…”

Isn’t what he did exactly the opposite of that? By going for it on fourth and two from his own 28 with two minutes to play, wasn’t he saying “I have so much confidence in my defense that even if we don’t get this first down and end the game, we won’t let them in the endzone”?

Go for it. It’s a football game. You practice and prepare your entire careers to execute and make plays, when you have a chance to do so: GO FOR IT. STOP. PLAYING. SCARED.

THIS is what having hugenuts will get for you gentlemen...

Conversely you have the debacle that was Iowa-Ohio State last Saturday. Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz calls a timeout to get the ball back with over a minute to go. Does so at Iowa’s own 33 yard line with a minute to go and a timeout. So basically they need 35 yards to attempt a 49-yd field goal to go to the Rose Bowl. You are Iowa. You lost your QB and somehow are still in the game. At the Horseshoe. GO FOR IT. STOP. PLAYING. SCARED. What does Ferentz do? Tries one dinky run up the middle, takes a delay of game and a knee and wastes the final minute of the game.

Let's just give up now and lose in overtime

The Buckeyes stop Iowa from scoring in OT and everyone and their mother and their mother’s mother knows what will happen next. The King of all Prunenuts, Jimmy Tressel will run, run, run, kick. Here’s what the play-by-play actually looked like:

1st-10, Iowa25 D. Herron rushed up the middle for 2 yard loss
2nd-12, Iowa27 D. Herron rushed up the middle for 2 yard gain
3rd-10, Iowa25 D. Herron rushed up the middle for 3 yard gain
4th-7, Iowa22 D. Barclay kicked a 39-yard field goal

I just don’t understand the playing not to lose instead of the playing to win philosophy. Lose knowing you tried your best to win, or win knowing you played like a scared little 2-year old. Maybe Tressel and Ferentz are penguins instead of humans …. ??
