PRP High School Coach Stinson Charged in Player’s Death

By: Carl H | January 24th, 2009 | Category: Sports

About 100 people were on hand for a prayer vigil tonight in the neighborhood where Jason Stinson lives, to express their support for the Pleasure Ridge Park High School football coach who was indicted this week in connection with the death of one of his players.

The vigil was the first organized this weekend to show community support for Stinson. Another event is being planned for Sunday.

Stinson, head football coach at PRP, was charged with reckless homicide in the death of 15-year-old Max Gilpin, who collapsed from heat stroke at a practice.

It was the first time a criminal charge has been filed in such a case involving a high school or college coach in the United States.
