The Fantasy Football Life – Week 1
We meet back up with a few of the managers of The League for some “who to start” talk. We are going to take a look at some of the decisions the owners are faced with during the opening week of the NFL. There are a lot people out there facing these same problems, so hopefully this helps you make the right decision to start your season off right.
Owner: Brian Anderson
Team: ManMythLegend
B.A. ‘s Issue: “Running Backs…This is going to be a problem all season for me. Gore and The Law Firm are my slated starters but who knows what I will end up with on Sunday at 12:58! Gore is just an older featured back with several studs waiting in the wings. Green-Ellis is a little banged up and ugly matchup with Baltimore. Yet, if Peterson is completely out then Gerhart could be my best option and the same goes for the rb situation in Carolina with Stewart and Williams.”
Week 1 Dilemma:
Running Backs…All of them!
Frank Gore @ GB (proj. 9.90)
Ben Jarvuis Green Ellis @ Bal (proj. 8.72)
Deangelo Williams @TB (proj. 9.16)
Toby Gerhart vs. Jax (proj. 9.85)
Pierre Thomas vs Was (proj. 8.08)
StraitSportsG Take: Certainly a difficult decision this week. I think Gore is the only good bet to get his teams bulk of the carries but what happens if Green Bay forces the Niners to pass more early? The biggest news you will be waiting to here is Adrian Peterson’s status. If he is slated as the starter with limited carries then he could still hurt Gerhart’s production but if AD is out then he might be your top producer. There are lots of possibilities with this lineup and the final decision might not be made until just before game time!
StraitSportsG Picks: Gore (85 total yds, 1 td) / Gerhart (100 total yds, 1 td)
Team Owner : Andy Carden
Team: Icky Shuffle
Andy’s Issue: “QB…A little concerned with this weeks starting QB conundrum! I have 2 polar opposites: Peyton Manning the grizzled veteran who was proven and hasn’t played in a year or RGIII and the hype machine screaming “Cam Newton, Cam Newton, Cam Newton”. Manning is also playing a more difficult defense in the Steelers, but 2 years ago he was automatic start against anyone but now what?”
Week 1 Dilemma :
QB, Which One?
Peyton Manning vs Pit (proj. 16.80)
Robert Griffin III @NO (proj 17.55)
StraitSportsG’s Take: This could certainly be the difference between winning or losing your matchup. I am fan of “proven” and after watching Peyton Manning in the preseason he is going to be just fine. He has solid receiving corps and will be given the freedom he has earned to run the offense. RGIII has the ability to have a great rookie campaign and certainly has generated hype. The difference for me, between RGIII this year and Cam last year, is Steve Smith! That guy, when motivated, would rip a milk bone from a pitbull. I just don’t think RGIII will have the tools on the outside to have consistent weeks you can count on. I will take proven to start the season, yet about week 6 or 7 this decision could a lot harder or much easier if RGIII finds his groove.
StraitSportsG’s Pick
Peyton Manning (275 yds, 3 tds, 1 int)
