The League: The Fantasy Football Life
Last week, Straipinkie sat down with friend of the site Brian Anderson for some pre-draft thoughts on picking team names, league tips, and some other things to help you and your league (see more HERE ) This week we check back in with post draft analysis with early round reaches, late round sleepers, and our own “Taco” moments!
No autopicks as 11 owners and 1 wife showed up for the on-line draft. Actually 7 of the guys actually met up at Aaron Boggs house with tablets, laptops, and smartphones in hand. The draft was at noon and the motto of the day developed quickly, “You can’t drink all day if you don’t start early”. Let’s talk to some of the owners about the draft happenings.
Straitpinkie: We had our own Kevin and Jenny when “GetDeezNuts” wife sent out a draft day trash talk email stating she would be in the draft chair, did she do better than he would have?
B.A. It looks as though GetDeezNuts household shares the same NFL magazines in the bathroom, and that’s not a good thing. She couldn’t do any worse than terrible, so it was an upgrade for her better trash talk in the draft lobby
Boggs Did a grown ass man just actually let his wife draft his team for him? ManCard REVOKED! It doesn’t matter if it is him or his wife, Getdeeznuts just donates to the winner every year anyway!
Andy Yes, not because she drafted any better, but I couldn’t help but imagine The League’s Jenny on the other end of the computer!
Straitpinkie: Who was the biggest reach in the first three rounds and why?
Boggs Gotta be Julio Jones. 21st pick overall? Several great receivers were picked after him. I think B.A. would have even passed on him there and he wants to be Julio’s baby’s mama!
B.A. I really think the picks of Matt Ryan and Eli Manning in the 3rd round were crazy. I think they could have waited and picked them up in the 5th or 6th rounds. The top tier QBs went fast and early, there was no need to waste a early pick on these guys.
Andy Matt Ryan was definelty early, about 2 rds. early.
Straitpinkie: Here’s A look at the league’s first 3 rounds, you decide:

Straitpinkie: Besides your own amazing steals, name one player taken after the 12th round
from another team that you could see coming up big.
Boggs Mario Manningham. He could be the #1 WR in San Francisco and team Hung got him in round 13?
Andy Randall Cobb late could be big.
B.A. I think Randall Cobb in the 14th could be a huge pickup, we all know the Pack loves to throw it around and Cobb is a playmaker. I also think Andrew Luck in the 12th could be a border line fantasy stud this year. He has looked very good in the preseason and their run game has not been good. The Colts will be throwing a lot this year
Straitpinkie: Besides your team, that might not lose a game because you know everything,
give me the two teams you expect to finish 2nd and 3rd.
Andy Trotter and Boggs could certainly have big years.
Boggs 1.Second place (or the first loser): ManMythLegend. Aaron Rodgers…enough said. Even though the rest of his team sucks, Rodgers can carry the worst bunch of losers to a win. Third place would be a tie between Prestige Worldwide and Massive Dynamic although both teams have some faults. Prestige Worldwide needs Shonn Green to finally do something other than fumble this year and Dez Bryant has to stay healthy (especially after tweaking a knee a few days ago). He has a potential knock-out punch with the Brady/Gronkowski connection. Massive dynamic has a great starting offense, but his reserves are pretty sad…I mean, was Danny Woodhead really drafted?
B.A. I really think Prestidge Worldwide has a solid team this year, with Brady and Gronk, that pair can put up some huge numbers, he also has a solid receiving core. Then unfortunately I do think Boggz Dawgz will be in the mix, his RBs are solid with Foster and Lynch and if Vick can stay healthy watch out. He also has a healthy Antonio Gates, who can be a beast especially with the loss of Vincent Jackson in SD.
Straitpinkie: What was the Taco moment of the draft?
Andy Miller not remembering his login, after he already logged in to the draft…what just happened?
B.A. Had to be Matty Ice 12-pack’s computer freezing up so he had to call another owner to draft his players for him. So, Trotter has two laptops and this goof in his ear trying to play by play the draft. Call Best Buy.
Boggs How about two dillrods from E-town (sick of Applebees and Wendys) wanting to go to Louisville’s best gastropub “The Blind Pig” for beers after the draft? A “GASTROPUB” for beers after a fantasy football draft? Where we going next year boys…Le Relais? (editor’s note: Bourbon on ice and a Bacon Butty at the Blind Pig is manly, grow a pair)
Straitpinkie: Bonus Question: Steel Reserve… Good idea or great idea?
Boggs Steel Reserve? I’d have to say great beer. Any beer is a great beer at “The Leagues” Fantasy Football draft!
B.A. Any beer high in alcohol is a good beer for me, and with a name like Steel Reserve, I think I will have another
We may check back in this year to discuss some of the owners weekly conundrums as match-ups and bye weeks start to turn some fantasies into nightmares.
