Lawrence Tynes gets Vanderjacked in Week 2

Week 2 is in the books and the most important player is again the kicker….good and bad!

The Bad

The Patriots and Tom Brady had a rough game but in the end New England was set up for victory. Down 2 and a 42 yd kick staring down reliable (career 84%) Stephen Gostkowski, the Patriots had surely done everything they needed too, at least we thought! The ball didn’t just miss left, it missed the net behind the field goal posts. Instead of the Pats just having a rough game and pulling out a close one, now we are wondering if something is wrong and what is Josh McDaniels doing! Of course, the only reason the Pats were in it was because of Gostkowski’s previous 4 field goals, including 2 from over 50. Had he hit that final kick then he would be celebrating a Vanderjacked award.

The Good

Gostkowski’s loss was one man’s gain! The Giants had a huge day on Sunday against a feisty Tampa Bay team. Eli Manning threw for the 8th most yards in a single game with 510 yds but that would not have been enough to win. The Giants won on the foot of Lawerence Tynes and Tynes picked himself up a Vanderjacked award! The kicker was 4-4 from field goal range and hit 3 PAT’s in a winning effort. Tynes is a Scot who is a graduate of NFL Europe after his college days at Troy. He also spent time in the CFL prior to making a NFL roster with the Chiefs.

Many people give Eli the credit for the recent Super Bowls in New York, but guess who joined the team in 2007 and has kicked 2 overtime field goals in Conference Championships on their way to those Super Bowls? It sure wasn’t Eli! Congrats to Lawerence Tynes on getting VANDERJACKED!
