Colts Upset Packers: Chuck Pagano Gets Game Ball from Irsay
Colts victory over the Packers seemed to be something out of a Hollywood script.
The heavily favored Packers were supposed to go in and get a win against a team with a rookie QB and a head coach that is in the hospital battling leukemia. The Colts coming off a bye played with heavy hearts with the news of their coach’s condition. Green Bay was in control with an 18 point lead going into halftime. This looked to be a foregone conclusion that the Packers would end up winning the game.
It seemed that no one told the Colts or the fans in Lucas Oil Stadium. I am not sure what was said at halftime, but it seemed to be a different Colts team that came back to play in the second half of the game. The fans were still cheering and showing love for Coach Pagano with the “CHUCKSTRONG” motto written all over the stadium.
Andrew Luck took a page from Peyton Manning’s book and threw to Reggie Wayne over and over again. The tandem were in sync and Wayne ended up with 212 yards receiving and one touchdown. Luck threw for 362 yards, 2 touchdowns, and one interception. Luck even pulled a Ben Roethlisberger type move when the Packers defense looked to have sacked him, he breaks free and continues the drive that proved to be the game winning score.
At the end of the game there were reports that Colts owner Jim Irsay was on his way to the hospital to give head coach Chuck Pagano the game ball. This was a very classy move by Irsay and the victory over the Packers might be small in comparison to a person battling leukemia, but I think Pagano knows how much a win like this means to the team, fans, and organization.
