Foxy’s Back!!! 2009 NBA Playoffs – First Round

Foxy’s been AWOL for a while, but he’s back with his NBA playoff predicitons!!! The first round will kick off at 12:30pm ET with the Celtics opening their title defense against Da Bulls.

First Round Matchups:
EAST
(1) Cleveland vs. (8) Detroit

LeBron James. Do I really have to go on when it comes to two teams going in different directions? AI blew up in the Pistons face and Dumars has a lot of moves to get the Pistons back to being contenders again. The Cavs sweep.

(2) Boston vs. (7) Chicago

This Series will be over-clouded with KG talk and if he will play; and if he plays how much of an impact he will have. The real question is: does it really matter? No. The Celtics will win this series in five games. Paul Pierce will carry them into the second round where KG will come back and help them get that championship ballin’ back.

(3) Orlando vs. (6) Philadelphia

This could end up being an interesting series with Orlando being so young and Philly having a veteran point guard in Andre Miller. Orlando has bounced back well after the injury to their starting point guard. The new AI in philly will have a great series but will not be enough to beat Mr. Double Double aka Superman aka Dwight Howard. Magic in seven.

(4) Atlanta vs. (5) Miami

A suprising 4/5 matchup, if you picked this before the year, well you were a lucky guesser. D-wade is unreal and might be too much for the Hawks. Atlanta does have something in their favor, and that is they had a tough series last year which should make them better this year around. They say the NBA is about stars so that is why I have to go with D-wade and the Heat in six.

WEST
(1) Los Angeles vs. (8) Utah

Utah an 8-seed? That hurts cuz I personally like this team due to their point guard play. LA is by far the best team in the West and will finally play a game that matters for the first time in weeks. Kobe can smell getting his first title without Shaq so there is no way he loses this one. Even though I like the Jazz I will take the LA in five.

(2) Denver vs. (7) New Orleans

Chris Paul is a player no one wants to see in the playoffs. He can win a series by himself. In this one though I don’t think he will be enough. Denver has been waiting for a few years to put it all together and I think this is it. They have experience along with some very good role players. Denver in six games.

(3) San Antonio vs. (6) Dallas

Dallas looked to be on the way out of the playoffs just two weeks ago and now are the 6-seed playing an old and injured Spurs team. The question will be can the Spurs win this matchup without the flop artist himself Manu? Dirk will do his thing but I don’t think it will be enough. This will be a real boring series I will take the Spurs in seven.

(4) Portland vs. (5) Houston

What a matchup this will be!! I am excited to watch this one on TNT. We have Brandon Roy who everyone loves to watch and he will be guarded by Artest which we all know what he can do. This will come down to home court advantage since the teams are so even. Portland took it from Houston on the last night of the season which will lead to Portland in seven.

Hi, I think that it’s a great match-up, first Rondo vs Rafer Alston aka Skip to my Lou = Rondo wins with defence, speed, and youth. Rafer beening a late pickup for Orlando is a vet but is in a new program and I’ve watched Rondo own him vs the Rockets. Second it wasn’t too long ago that Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis were both poppin 3′s for the late Sonics so I give that a toss up unless Ray goes thru another drought like last year’s playoffs. Dwight Howard is a beast and will go double double every game of the series. That plus no K.G. = lost rebounds and no second chance shots, that alone could be a factor for Paul Pierce who gets alot of his points that way. Jameer Nelson is a good player, better than Eddy House but it looks to me like Eddy wants it more and has the deep 3 skillz. Big Baby, Powe, and Perkins will have to step up their game and do a little “Hack a Dwight” to keep him in check or he will OWN the paint. The bench of both teams will play some role and I hate J.J. Redick and Stephon Marbury more than books so I can wait for that. All in all I’m going with Boston, even with K.G. on the bench he will still be the 6th man on the floor, and Boston is avg. 7 more points without him so unless something drastic happens (injury / foul out / shooting drought) I think 5 games if Boston wins on the road this year, plus they have more overall talent and experience. BTW the Spurs are my least favorite team in the NBA and hopefully I wont have to see them much this year with all their injuries.
