I’ve written here before that the Cubs talks with the Padres regarding Jake Peavy were finished, but this time it’s coming from a GM, not Lou Piniella, the man who spent the Winter Meetings in the sports book. Ken Rosenthal is reporting that talks are now over.
“Padres general manager Kevin Towers said he was told by Cubs general manager Jim Hendry on Thursday that the Cubs were ending their quest for a Peavy blockbuster.”

I’ll be back tomorrow morning to give some thoughts about the lack of a deal, and to talk about what the rest of the off season will look like.
