Orlando Summer League Day 2 Recap

Daniel Orton followed his fiasco of a debut on Monday with another sub-par performance in the Magic’s game two loss to the Utah Jazz, 78-73. Orton started for the second game in a row and played over 17 minutes, but recorded just two points and two rebounds. He finished 0-for-6 from the floor and the lone bright spot might have been the fact that he only committed two fouls and wasn’t ejected for fighting.

I bet this is what Orton feels like after two games. Hopefully, he is able to get right up, unlike this wannabe ninja.

It’s been a rough start for Orton. Entering Summer League play there was already talk about the Magic parting ways with Marcin Gortat, with hopes of Orton assuming Superman’s backup roll. You have to wonder if they are already worried after just two games.

Joe Crawford didn’t play in the game for the Magic after scoring ten points in 19 minutes of action in their first contest.

Patrick Ewing Jr., who is playing for his dad in the Summer League, led the Magic with 17 points on 7-for-12 shooting. If you get a chance to watch Summer League action, please watch the Magic. Seriously with Pat Ewing Jr. playing for his pops, you really get that Little League sense of entitlement for the coaches son. Ewing Jr. does not dribble the ball more than two times without firing. In the first game the man took 17 shots, going 7-for-17. I bet he didn’t take 17 shots in all of his years at Indiana and Georgetown combined.

Jodie Meeks started and scored 18 points in the Sixers’ 86-69 win over the Celtics. He was 6-for-11 from the field, including 2-for-3 from deep, and had two assists and two steals.

After two games, Terrence Williams is proving he doesn’t belong in this league. He looks like a man amongst boys. In the Nets’ 80-69 win over the Pacers, T-Will played in just under 35 minutes, scoring 24 points, pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out seven assists. He did, however, commit nine turnovers.

He is not playing off the ball and is running the show for the Nets. It will be interesting to see how often he plays on the ball once the real season starts and Devin Harris is in the game.

He is video of T-Will talking after the game.

The Magic, Sixers and Nets will continue action with one game every day through Friday and we’ll keep you updated on the action. You can also catch most of these games on NBATV.

Patrick Patterson and the Rockets begin play on Friday. John Wall and the Wizards kick off on Sunday. The Kings and DeMarcus Cousins and the Clippers and Eric Bledsoe will start play on Monday. In fact, the Clippers open up with the Wizards, meaning Wall and Bledsoe will go toe-to-toe. That game is set for 10 p.m. Monday night. Should be fun.
