mosleymargarito Mosley vs. Margarito

Tonight Sugar Shane Mosley will step into the ring as a 3-1 underdog against current WBA welterweight champion Antonio ‘the Tijuana Tornado’ Margarito.  Margarito is 37-5 with 27 knockouts while Mosley is 45-5 with 38 wins via the knockout.  In the Tijuana Tornado’s last fight he stopped previously unbeaten Puerto Rican star Miguel Cotto in the 11th round to claim the WBA welterweight title. Mosley knocked the eccentric Ricardo Mayorga out in the 12th round four months ago.

Sugar Shane, always gracious had this to say about tonight’s fight: “This is going to be a great event,” said the 37-year-old Mosley, a four-time world champion in three weight classes. “I want to thank Margarito for taking the fight when he could have fought anyone. To fight right here in both of our backyards, where we both came up fighting the hard way. … I’ve just been up here a little longer.

I feel great, I feel sharp, I feel special. I can’t wait to get in the ring. I think I’m going to be victorious.”

Mosley tipped the scales at 147lbs, the maximum allowed, while Margarito weighed in at 145.8 pounds.

Both fighters should earn about $2.4 milli tonight… life is good for puglists these days.

The fight will be broadcast live from The Staples Center on HBO.
