1. Detroit Lions - seriously??? no one's brought them up yet? Barry Sanders and the Run and Shoot offense. nuff said. And that's only if you even got your offense on the field, by somehow not returning the kickoff for an easy 6 with Mel Gray. And if you end a game with less than 15 sacks for Jerry Ball, then you obviously did not know "the nosetackle trick" that had to be outlawed in head to head games at my cousins' house. And Michael Cofer was second only to LT for blocking FG's.

2. San Fran - Who cares about Craig and Rathman. Just run all the way back to your endzone with Montana and throw the ball 100+ yards to Rice at the other endzone. Works at least 25% of the time (probably closer to 50%). so in 4 downs you're basically guaranteed a TD.

3. Da Bills - Well said above. most well rounded team and I def. played more seasons with them than any other team

4. Bo Jackson. Not the Raiders. But Bo Jackson. Marcus Allen was worthless, b/c there was no point in giving him the ball. And besides Tim Brown (who was only useful for returning punts b/c Jay Schroeder blows!) and a solid D Line, this team was crap

5. Eagles - Cunningham (i mean "QB Eagles") was just as good as Barry Sanders if you used him right. Plus decent RB's, WR's, and Keith Jackson at TE, solid LB's and Eric Allen, who could get to any ball thrown anywhere on the field.

5a. I would accept Bears, Giants, and Chiefs (Christian Okoye in Excellent condition is the best player on this game) as well, but I think if you use "QB Eagles" right, Philly gets the edge.

***Honorable mention***
Tampa Bay - (See above about Okoye and it applies to Reggie Cobb as well) and for some reason, Wayne Haddix is the best defensive back on this game. I can not confirm that this guy actually existed in real life.

Pittsburgh - Dwight Stone is one of the best KR's on the game and their defense is insane. Darren Woodson is the only DB on the game that rivals Wayne Haddix and Eric Allen

Houston - Run and Shoot with 4 badass receivers, Lorenzo White at RB (very under-rated), "Ice Man" McNeil returning punts and kickoffs, and Childress and Dishman on D. Oh yeah, and they had Warren Moon, too.

Redskins - Thanks to awesome receivers and Darrell Green...And Earnest Byner wasn't horrible. Also, didn't they win the Super Bowl in real life the season this came out? Or was that this the season the Gigantes won it?

*Interesting Note* What's funny is that the worst team on this game is probably the Cowboys. Google that roster when you get a chance...If "Tecmo Super-er Bowl" came out about 2 yrs later, no question the Cowboys would have been #1 on that game.

The KC Chiefs are not top 5??? Are you kidding? Derrick Thomas, Christian Okoye? Two of the top players of the game on O and on D plus a decent QB, and a great surrounding cast at defense.

Bears and 49ers could definetly be ranked outside the top 5...

Supertecmo one of greatest games of alltime! I think it would be hard not to include Cincinnati in the top 5 teams tho. Fulcher on defense! Good passing attack and run game! They did go to the superbowl that year.

I have a fully restored NES with 2 copies of this great game, and I live in the Detroit area. I still play it every day with buddies. We're looking for die hards in the area who want to stop by and play a season. Anyone?? Jmoskwa1@att.blackberry.net January 2010 as I'm posting this now.

Yeah, it was with the old school NES. It was an option that you could choose. But I believe it may have been the plain old Tecmo Bowl, the one with the same guy on the cover, but looking strait ahead and with green writing.
