A couple weeks ago Guy Smiley introduced the Pinkie’s readers to the Elliott County Lions, a Kentucky High School that in 2009, is attempting to pulloff a modern day Hoosiers.
Well, the Lions are now four (4) wins away from completing that story. Pat Forde wrote an awesome piece on Elliott County, and in case you missed it, here it is again.
Last night the Lions won the 16th Region Championship and earned their spot in the KHSAA Boys’ Sweet Sixteen Tournament next weekend.
Elliott County survived a scare in their 62nd District opener, winning only by five, 73-68 over East Carter. They then defeated West Carter to earn the District Championship.
In the 16th Region Tournament held at Morehead State, the Lions encountered no such scare. They defeated Russell, Ashland-Blazer, and Lewis County by scores of 88-61, 92-59, and 83-61 respectively.
Elliott County will open their State Tournament against the Eighth Region Champions, Anderson County, next Thursday (March 19th) at 8:00pm EST in Lexington’s Rupp Arena.
