Day after Halloween is not the time to wear Orange
Wassup everyone? I’ll get into the reasons I’m a hardcore Card fan in a later post, but there’s too much stuff happening today and I have to focus on this. Today, we have one of the best days of the year, opening day for the UofL basketball team. Sure, it may not be a real game, and there’s prolly gonna be about 200 fans that show up at the Hall today wonderin’ why we aren’t playin’ the Hoyas, but it doesn’t matter. IT’S BASKETBALL SEASON!
So, for those of you wonderin’, who are the Georgetown College Tigers? Well, they’re an NAIA school (it’s kinda like Division II, but not as cool as Bellarmine). Be on the lookout for a set of former Class of 2005 Trinity Rocks on the court, as PG Zach Berry is a transfer from Kennesaw State, while Bret and Kyle Saxton will play a mix of the two and three spots.
Last year, the squad made it to the NAIA Final Four before losing to Mountain State University (awesome name, but Mountain is not a state. Memphis is a state though. A very bad one). Happy Osborne has been the coach there for a long time, and he does a pretty good job.
Enough with the opponent, THE CARDS ARE BACK! E5, Preston Knowles (my favorite player), Edgar, SamSam, our fearless leader Twill, Will Scott droppin’ shots from mid-court, with Slick Rick runnin’ the show. Can’t wait to see this one later today, and I’ve already got the DVR set.
We also have a Cardinal football nightcap. The opponent: Syracuse. The venue: Carrier Dome (even though a dome cannot have a heating and cooling system like the type Carrier makes). Watch out for the kickin’ game because the wind may really get a hold of it.
Last week’s player of the game, WR Scott Long, is out for the season after tearing his ACL. Poor guy. He had just come back from a broken foot and seemed to be ready to take the spot still vacated by Harry Douglas.
I don’t think any Cardinal fan will ever forget last year’s game. Favored by 35 points, the Orange came into the Oven and laid the smackdown with 27 touchdown passes off slant patterns to the middle of the field (or at least it felt like it). It was the first time I had ever received tickets for the lower level of the stadium for a game (3 rows behind the ‘Cuse bench), and that is why I will not set in the lower level again (although, if you have tickets, we may be able to negotiate).
Anyways, I want to see a Cardinal defense that stomps on the Orange and force coach Greg Robinson to break down and do one of three things:
1. Quit immediately at halftime in his sideline interview with an ESPNU reporter.
2. Walk off the field during the game, as Jim Boeheim comes out and starts a basketball pep rally.
3. Have his players get on cell phones during the game as Mel Kiper Jr. reports that their coach has quit, and then give up. (Oh, wait, I’m gettin’ him confused with John L. My apologies, Coach Robinson).
I’m not in to giving predictions, because nobody admits their huge mistakes. Although, I will give you my prop bet to think about: Which will be greater today: The margin of victory by the basketball team, or the amount of points scored by the football team? You make the call, and GO CARDS!
