Skeet Perfection, Nearly
Kim Rhode of Whittier, California has added another Gold to the USA treasure chest. She was able to dominate Women’s Skeet today with a nearly flawless competition.
Women’s skeet has a qualification round of 75, 3 rounds of 25. The top 6 move on to the final round, a round of 25. In 2008, Rhode and 2 other finalists finished the Final round with a then Olympic Record of 93. She went on to lose in the shoot-off to Chiara Cainero of Italy and bring home a Silver Medal. In 2012, the American would not let it get to a shoot off! Rhode shot 74/75 during qualifcation round which set an Olympic Record, and 1 shy of her own World Record of 75/75, set earlier in the year in Tucson. She stood 4 clear of her toughest competitor, overall world record holder Danka Bartekova, shooting for Slovakia. In the final round, Rhode’s lead was really insurmountable. So, in a calm and cool manner, she went out in style! She was a perfect 25/25, bringing her total to an amazing 99/100! She broke the Olympic Record of 93 and also tied the World Record with her performance.
Rhode brings her Olympic medal total to 5. It includes two golds (’96,’04) and a bronze (’00) in Double Trap and the silver (’08) and gold (’12) in skeet. Her shooting prowess has led to a tv show on the Outdoor Channel called Step Outside. Her gold medal in 1996 made her the youngest female gold medalist in shooting! She has now also won a medal in 5 consecutive Olympics, which is a first for any American athlete. So, if you see Kim Rhode with a gun, do not pretend to be a clay pigeon!

I SHOT SKEET IN COMPETITION BACK WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER. WON SEVERAL STATE LEVEEL CHAMPIONSHIPS. BUT, 99\100 IS JUST AMAZING. TALK ABOUT CONCENTRATION! GOOD JOB.
FANTASTIC! I won a bronze in trap shooting in the 1964 Olympics, and I do not know how she can keep her competitive concentration at a world level, for so many years. The ability will be there, but the concentration required is very hard to generate each time. Great job Kim!
Congradulations Kim, Great achievement for you and American shooting.
Tom
Thanks for the comments Mr.Morris, Kim Rhode had an amazing run.
For those who don’t know, Mr. Morris, an Oklahoma native, won USA’s first Olympic shooting medal in 40 yrs by winning bronze in ’64.
