College Football Week 7: On Paper, Upset Potential, Don’t Bother
On Paper
#3 South Carolina vs. #9 LSU
8PM ESPN
The Gamecocks ran roughshod over the smoke and mirrors Bulldogs last week, but will see an actual defense this week. The Tigers lack of QB play continues to haunt them as Zack Mettenberger has proven himself a turd with arms, week in and week out. Of course, if any one wants to know what’s wrong with the Tigers recruiting has to look no further than Steve Kragthorpe. The biggest strength for Les Miles has been his defense, and outside of Alabama has not faced a team with an equal D. South Carolina may not only be bringing a better offense, but a better defense into this game! I like what the Ol’ Ball Coach is bringing to the table with a stout D and Latimore pound it out offense. If SC can jump out early and remove the crowd from this game then this may be a very one sided match-up, but if it gets late and the crowd can make a difference on a snap count or cause the Cocks to waste a time out or two then the Tigers can be back in the mix of top teams. LSU is giving up 2.5 and has won 22 straight at Death Valley but what worries me is they might not score 3 points!

Upset Potential
#10 Oregon State vs BYU

This is not a big reach with Beaver QB Sean Mannion out but this would have been my pick prior to his injury. The Cougars have the top ranked rushing defense and have only allowed double digits this year twice (13,24). Lavell Edwards Stadium will be rocking and rolling (politely) and Mike Reilly’s offense will have a tough afternoon. The only difficulty will be if BYU can run the ball with QB Taysom Hill and I think they can. Their 2 losses have been by a total of 4 points to two respectable opponents (Utah/Boise State). I see a low scoring affair and really think the Cougars will have just enough to win.

Championship Game Predicitions
It’s too early so let’s ease up on the hype. Notre Dame is undefeated,Florida beat LSU, Alabama is undefeated, WVU has Geno Smith, South Carolina can prove itself, Oregon is rolling,….it doesn’t end until the last conference championship is played. This guy has a lot more calculating to do before we know who will be in the big game.
