The GLVC tourney starts today at Knights Hall in Louisville for the Bellarmine Knights.
Scott Davenport’s Knights are coming off back to back seasons where they spent the majority of the years in the National Championship conversation. This season has been a little different but with a 20-6 record it’s hard to say a team with experience and a tradition of winning under Davenport are not allowed in the conversation.
The team was led by newcomer Vance Hall in the scoring category with 15.7 per game as he shot over 48% from beyond the arc. Chris Dowe had a very good year putting up 14.8 ppg, 5.2 rbg, and 4.8 assists per. He really tried to step in to the spot that Braydon Hobbs left. He was 2nd on the team in scoring and steals but was 1st in rebounds, assist, and blocks.
The team has been sensational at home this year going 8-1 in conference and 13-1 overall. Their lone loss was to a tough UI Indy by 2 on Feb 7th. In that game BU was up 3 with only :18 left until 2 costly turnovers and a foul by Keisten Jones that led to go ahead free throws. The road, on the other hand, was a Knightmare! The team was 4-5 in conference and 5-5 overall on the road this season. Luckily for Bellarmine, the GLVC tourney starts out at Knights Hall!!
They open play against #12 seed Illinois Springfiled and will play for the right to move on to Evansville for the next round. The teams’ hopes rest on the shoulders of Dowe and Hall, and the senior Dowe will want to finish with a bang.
Put on your KnightyKnight shirt and go root on the Knights at 3:15 today!
