With the recent hot stove of college football moves, we at straitpinkie would like to try and comprehend why ($$$) oh WHY?!?! ($$$), (1)Charlie Weis is still going to be coaching next year, (2)Ty Willingham was yanked so quickly compared to the abscence of yanking with Frontbutt ($$$), and (3)Tommy Tuberville getting the axe (???).

Yr 1 of Ty: 10 – 3, lost gator bowl
Yr 2 of Ty: 5 – 7, no bowl
Yr 3 of Ty: 6 – 6, fired before Insight Bowl (lost to Derek Anderson and Beavers)
3yr total: 21 – 16, two bowl bids

Yr 1 of Frontbutt: 9 – 3, lost BCS Fiesta bowl
Yr 2 of Frontbutt: 10 – 3, lost BCS Sugar bowl

3yr total: 22 – 15, two BCS bids (noone knows how)

Let’s keep in perspective Ty Willingham is an AWFUL coach…. Maybe. I mean, he never even got to the point where the entire team was his. That would be Yrs 1 and 2 of Frontbutt’s reign, and those resulted in BCS berths (though that is a whole other mystery to be figured out)

By comparison Tommy Tuberville won 68% of his games in 10 years (85-40), went undefeated and if not for the dumb@$$ BCS system woulda had a shot at a National Title in 2004. He has brought in the #19, #7, and #12 recruiting classes the last 3 years. Auburn lost to Alabama (# ONE AND UNDEFEATED ALABAMA) ending a 6 year winning streak, which for a rivalry game is nearly unheard of. I guess I just don’t understand War Eagle (never really did, when there are seventeen different myths about how your schools battle cry started, its kinda weird).

When you look at Frontbutt and ask how will he be there next year I think first you have to look at the Ty Willingham situation. How does he get fired after three seasons? The fact that he didn’t get the opportunity to have a full team of his recruits before he got the axe is ridiculous. Coaches should at least get four or five seasons to turn a program around.
I understand Willingham’s tenure was not that successful. Even his first year when they went 10-3 he was aided dramatically by defensive scores and a lot those were close wins. But, do you credit close wins to the coach or luck?
In Frontbutt’s first two seasons he went to BCS bowls undeservingly. They should have been good. He had an offense with talent, courtesy of Ty Willingham’s recruits.
I don’t know I used to pull for ND a little bit but I can’t stand Frontbutt. Man brings in top recruiting classes every year but does nothing with it. Is Frontbutt really an offensive genius or did he ride the coattails of Tom Brady Quinn? Jimmy Claussenn was the #1 recruit in the nation and throws a pretty ball. Yet, was terrible the second half of the season.
Bottom line…if Mitch Barnhardt fires Rich Brooks like ND did Ty Willingham the Cats probably aren’t going to three consecutive bowl games. I understand this year’s 6-6 team is dead last in SEC East and only has two conference wins by a combined two points. But, they are going to a bowl and get an extra six weeks of practice. They get to continue the program’s momentum. And at least the Cats don’t have a Frontbutt as a coach.
also, Jimmy Clausen looks like an ostrich.

What a good call by Arkansas to put a non-compete clause in Petrino’s contract that won’t let him go to the SEC West, because he’d be gone for sure if they hadn’t!
