Xavier Henry appears headed to Kansas

By: Guy | April 3rd, 2009 | Category: Cats

Of the guys who were planning to play for John Calipari in Memphis, I thought Xavier Henry to be the biggest stretch for UK. His dad played for Kansas, and he had already said to the Jayhawks once. It looks like it’s going to prove too hard to do it again. A lot of Kansas fans were worried at the talk that Xavier possibly could visit UK, but the words of Xavier’s father in the Lawrence Journal-World likely allay those concerns:

Things are looking positive for Kansas in the crazy, ever-changing Xavier Henry sweepstakes.

Henry’s dad, Carl, said Friday afternoon that his son wants to be a Jayhawk.

“That’s what he said after the McDonald’s game,” Carl Henry stated. “I believe what it comes down to is Xavier wants to go to KU.”

Xavier Henry signed a letter of intent with Memphis in November but will be allowed to transfer without sitting out a year because of an agreement he had with the school that said he could be released from his letter if coach John Calipari left.

Carl Henry said Xavier’s brother, C.J., may have to remain at Memphis if he wants to play next season. He’d have to sit out a year if he transferred to KU.

“C.J. doesn’t want to sit out. He wants to play,” Carl said. “He and C.J. are talking today, seeing what they want to do. They are definitely thinking about splitting up. I don’t think C.J. wants to sit out.”

Carl didn’t discount the possibility of both of his sons playing at Memphis.

“But that’s what he wants to do,” Carl Henry added of Xavier coming to KU.

Xavier has not revealed his final plans to the media. Carl said he believed Kentucky would not be an option for either of his sons (the place where former Memphis coach John Calipari now coaches).

UK likely turn its attention to John Wall as priority number one and possible adding DeMarcus Cousins as well. Other possible signees this spring include Eric Bledsoe and Memphis signee Nolan Dennis.
