Here’s a look at the action in SEC this weekend and the standings:
LSU 73 Kentucky 70
Alabama 90 Mississippi 69-The Tide is quickly emerging as the underdog I’m going to be watching in Tampa. They have won three straight, scoring 88.3 points per game in the process. Anthony Brock led a balanced scoring attack with 5 players in double figures, scoring 17 points on 5-6 three point shooting. Terrico White continued his case for freshman of the year honors, scoring 20 points. Starting with the UK game, he’s scored double figures 7 times in a row, including 6 performances of 18 points or more.
Auburn 76 Mississippi State 58-Perhaps realizing their Tourney hopes had disappeared with their close loss in Knoxville, the Bulldogs failed to show up in Starkville, falling down 17 at the half. Every Auburn player that entered the game scored at least 6 points, collectively shooting 9-17 from three. Auburn now leads State by a game for the second seed in the West.
Vanderbilt 96 South Carolina 83-I thought Vandy would give the SEC East leaders a game in Nashville, but I did not expect this. Vandy shot 62% for the game after shooting 31.2% in their last game. AJ Ogilvy and Jermaine Beal led the ‘Dores, scoring 28 and 27 points respectively. I guess South Carolina was bound to come back to earth after their performance against UK, and they certainly did, shooting only 9-35 from deep (25.75). Devan Downey (24) and Zam Frederick (21) scored a bunch, but shot a combined 2-20 from three.
Tennessee 79 Florida 75-After South Carolina’s loss on Saturday, the Vols and Gators played in Gainesville to tie for first place. Tennessee got out to a 12 point halftime lead, and used 10-19 shooting from three to hold off Florida, snapping their 17 game home winning streak. Frankly, if Tennessee shoots that well from deep, they are going to beat a lot of people. Tyler Smith and Wayne Chism scored 37 points between them, while Nick Calathes led Florida with 20 points and 7 assists. Both teams pressured in the full court most of the game, but it was a pretty cleanly played game: UT turned it over only 6 times and Florida 9.
Arkansas 89 Georgia 67-In a matchup of the cellar dwellers, Arkansas smacked the Bulldogs around, forcing Georgia into 21 turnovers even though they shot over 50%. Michael Washington had struggled a bit of late, but he notched a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Howard Thompkins scored 20 points for the losers.

I guess we’re just not going to get set of games without a shakeup.
LSU needed either a win against Kentucky or a South Carolina loss to lock up the SEC title…they got both.
South Carolina had the inside track to the SEC East title, playing the two last place teams in the East and hosting Tennessee in its last three games, instead, they fell victim to the “Memorial Magic” that UK can attest to. That sets up a showdown in Columbia on Thursday for first place. The winner of that game will lock up a bye in the Tournament and gain the high ground in the fight for the one seed that really is no clearer than it was two weeks ago.
In the West, Auburn not only holds a game lead over third place Mississippi State, but also the tiebreaker. Mississippi State needs to win out and hope Auburn loses to Alabama and LSU to close out.
Here are the bubble teams in the SEC:
Tennessee (@South Carolina, Alabama)-With a strong RPI (29) and big road win over Florida, Tennessee is probably now one win away from being in for sure, no matter if it comes in Columbia, Knoxville, or Tampa. Predicted finish: 1-1; NCAA chances: 85/15
South Carolina (Tennessee, @UGA)-South Carolina likely would have moved into the “lock” category by knocking off Vandy, instead, the SEC is left with only one team that can be sure about its Tourney hopes. A win over Tennessee or UGA will likely do the trick though. Predicted finish: 1-1; NCAA chances: 80/20
Florida (@Miss. St., UK)-Their failure to capitalize on their normally reliable home court advantage does hurt, but I think they will still be safe. A trip to Starkville is not usually easy, but the Bulldogs are struggling mightily of late. Will Senior Night inspire State? A loss in that game would likely set up a play-in game of sorts against UK to finish the season, much like last year’s Senior Day in Lexington. Predicted finish: 1-1; NCAA chances: 60/40
Kentucky (Georgia, @Florida)-UK did play inspired basketball in the second half, but there’s no partial credit when it comes to the NCAA Tournament, even if you do go punch for punch with the conference champ. Normally UK can rely on an emotional boost on Senior Night, but this time, I think they’ll just have to derive motivation from the fact that the Georgia game is a must win if UK doesn’t want to have to win the SEC Tournament to make it in, because I know saying goodbye to Jared Carter is NOT going to be very emotional for me. If UK does not beat Georgia and Florida both, I believe that a trip to the SEC final is the only way they get in. Predicted finish: 1-1; NCAA chances: 35/65
