Girls and boys all star teams from Indiana and Kentucky faced off against one another in Indianapolis at Conseco Fieldhouse in the annual dual between the best basketball players from the two bordering states.
In both the girls game and boys game, the Kentucky teams hung tough in the first half, before succumbing in the second.
The Kentucky girls jumped out to an early 9 point lead, but trailed by 10 at half and ended up losing 105-75. Indiana Ms. Basketball and Notre Dame signee Skylar Diggins led the way with 25 points on the way to MVP honors.
The Kentucky boys led 37-35 at halftime, but the size and skill of the Indiana players proved to be too much, as Indiana pulled away late to win 78-65. Indiana has a lot of high Division I talent, but it was Errick Peck, who is headed to Cornell, who led Indiana with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Kentucky signee Jon Hood had to be having deja vu thinking back to his senior year at Madisonville playing in this game, as he was the only player on his squad who could score the ball. Hood led all scorers with 20 points and also grabbed 5 rebounds as well.
Jon Hood is being largely forgotten as a member of this recruiting class, which I believe is an injustice. He’s a top 50 player nationwide and the best in his home state. Hood has toiled all year on a team that was just not talented enough to draw any attention from the opposition away from him, but he still put up phenomenal numbers.
He will not have to worry about a lack of talent around him anymore, as this will be the last time he’ll be the most prized prospect on his team now that he’s joining UK. He likely won’t get starter minutes this year, but he will have a role. I look for big things out of him by the time he’s a senior, especially considering how he has bulked up this offseason (he’s over 200 pounds now).

One Response to “Indiana sweeps KY-IN All Star games, Jon Hood shines”
I watched sundays game and John Hood was terrible, he had trouble creating his own shot and was looking down while dribbling. Im a UK fan and was very disappointed, may be another Josh Carrier hope not! I’ve seen alot of basketball players and he will be lucky to see the floor the next two years, hope Im wrong but dont think so
