In-home visits underway, Calipari busy

By: Guy | September 10th, 2009 | Category: Cats

Yesterday was the first day that coaching staffs were able to make visits with 2010 recruits, and not surprisingly, John Calipari was on the road, meeting with Tobias Harris and his family in Long Island. The visits continue today, as Calipari has moved up his visit with Kyrie Irving and may also be meeting with Doron Lamb.

No word has emerged on the visits today, but we have heard a decent amount about the visit with Tobias Harris.

-Kentucky Ink has a report with quotes from Tobias, saying it was a nice visit:

“It went good,” Harris said. “Real good.”

“Basically we just got a lot of stuff figured out about the academic end of things, how I’d be a good fit for the program. It was just really about making that connection.”

“We talked about how I’ll be able to play multiple positions and have the ball in my hands a lot,” Harris said.

Harris also told Kentucky Ink that the plan is to cut his list from 11 to 5 after the in-homes.

-ZagsBlog spoke with Tobias’ father, Torrel:

“The home visit was great,” Torrel Harris said by text. “We are very impressed with Kentucky, Coach Cal and his coaching staff.”

-Finally, AllKYHoops.com has full list of Tobias’ visits and also a source report saying that a decision can be expected from Harris at the beginning of next week when his visits conclude.

I’ve gone back and forth on whether I think it’s a good thing that Calipari has the first visit. You just have to hope that Calipari managed to set the bar very, very high. Harris is a top 5 talent and an ideal fit with his size and skill to play the 4 in the dribble drive. Some think it’s a battle between UK and UofL for Harris, who has emerged as one of UK’s top 3 targets in the class.
