Here’s another 2010 wing to remember – Mychal Parker

I told you on Wednesday that the list of 2010 UK wing prospects I put together was an incomplete one and that names would be added to it as the summer progresses. It turns out a name needs to be added sooner rather than later.

6-6 small forward Mychal Parker, according to Jody Demling, will visit UK next week after the conclusion of the NBA Players Association Top 100 camp.

Parker is ranked as a top small forward in the class of 2010 by both Scout and Rivals, ranking at #32 and #34 overall according to the two services. Parker is a slasher with good athleticism. He says he’s working to develop some consistency in his jump shot and that he is intrigued at the prospect of playing for John Calipari.

ESPN has Parker graded out at a 95. This is their most recent evaluation of his game:

Parker has all the intangibles to be an outstanding wing at the next level. His frame is outstanding with nice length and he has broad shoulders to carry weight as well. His skill level is quite good, but he has a tendency to play in spurts. He gets most of his points-at least at the Pangos All-American Camp-driving to the basket. He’s an elusive scorer who is more finesse than power. He can knock down the 3-point shot and he gets solid lift on it, but it needs to get more consistent. He finishes well in transition and can get up for the big dunk. Defensively, he needs to show a greater urgency to bend his knees and become a lock-down defender because his effort at that particular end wasn’t strong. Parker is a high-major talent, but he needs to become more aggressive at both ends and continue to polish his skills to reach his potential.

Parker calls Charlottesville, Virginia home and about half of the ACC is on his case (UVA, Virginia Tech, Miami, Maryland, and Clemson) along with Florida and Ohio State. Demling reports that UK has yet to offer him a scholarship, but that Parker is hoping he may get that offer when he comes to Lexington.

Based on how Parker talks about Coach Calipari, I believe this could be a recruitment that moves very quickly, depending on how UK decides to proceed. I’m sure we’ll hear more once this visit happens.
