As the Louisville football Cardinals get set for an important 2009 season, a season which could very well determine the fate of their head coach, they have seen positive results on the recruiting front up to this point. Coach Steve Kragthorpe and his staff have secured 5 verbal commitments from the class of 2010, including two top in-state players Harris Bivin and Quan Weaver.

But the potential crown jewels of the 2010 class areLouisville Central’s Tim Patterson and Stephan Robinson. Robinson, a three star prospect according to Rivals.com, recently spoke with the Illinois rivals site to discuss his recruitment and produced this very interesting quote:

“I’m looking at Louisville hard because I want to be the hometown hero. I don’t have to stay in state though, but I don’t want to go too far away for school.”

Stephan Robinson is a top priority for the Louisville staff, in fact he may be target 1A along with top target Patterson. Robinson possesses great speed and catches the football. Louisville fans know how important that is after watching a 2008 season in which it seemed like a receiver was dropping or fumbling the football in a crucial spot every contest.

Stephan is also being recruited heavily by Kentucky, Tennessee, Oregon, Alabama, and Cincinnati. We all know the presence Kentucky, particularly offensive coordinator Joker Phillips, has at Louisville Central so it becomes even more critical for Kragthorpe to get Robinson.

Robinson also said he would not make a decision soon as he wants to take all his visits. He also said the biggest factor in his decision will be academics because his mom wants him to get his degree (sounds like a good idea to me).

The Cardinals already have good momentum with the commitments they have, but a verbal from Stephan Robinson at some point would be huge and I think would definitely secure teammate Patterson.
