According to CardinalSports.com and InsidetheVille.com, Sandy Creek (GA) high school defensive end Lacy Coleman has committed to the University of Louisville. Coleman, a 6-5 205 pound prospect from the Peach state, called Louisville defensive line coach Ken Delgado Wednesday night to inform him of the decision, then Coleman called Coach Kragthorpe Thursday morning to inform him.
Coleman, in an interview with CardinalSports.com, admitted he wanted to commit sooner, but decided it was best to wait in order to be sure. Coleman chose Louisville over offers from East Carolina and West Virginia, and also received heavy interest from Kentucky and Cincinnati. Coleman is listed as being only 205 lbs on rivals.com, but is listed as around 235 lbs on scout.com. Assuming the truth lies somewhere in between, Coleman will definitely have to add weight, but the good news is he is 6-5 and has the frame to do so.

As you can see, Lacy Coleman is very excited about his commitment
With Coleman’s announcement, this now gives Kragthorpe five early commitments for the 2010 recruiting class from the high school ranks. He also has a commitment from Randy Salmon, a DT who committed to Louisville in 2009, but did not qualify. However you want to spin it, Kragthorpe has six pledges for the 2010 class and has gathered some good momentum on the recruiting trail.
As I stated in my Kragthorpe’s Last Stand articular, Kragthorpe needs to secure a good recruiting class to help improve his standing as Louisville football coach and he is doing so. Another element to this that needs to be addressed is what early commitments say about the current coaching staff. To me, it says these players are buying what Kragthorpe and his staff are selling.
It also means Kragthorpe has identified his type of players and is going after them hard. Central high school standouts Stephan Robinson and Tim Patterson are still out there and Kragthorpe is still in good shape with them. As I’ve stated many times, those two are the key figures. If Kragthorpe secures both of them, he may very well secure his job status on the spot. As always, we will keep you updated.
