That’s right, there is no misprint. The Bellarmine Knights are the ranked as the 5th best Division II basketball team in the nation.
In case you haven’t been following good ole BU since the last post, the Knights obliterated #17 Northern Kentucky University 77-60 last Friday night in a raucous Knights Hall. Senior point guard Chartrael Hall had 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists, all game highs. That was good enough to earn him Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week.
Bellarmine showed the type of ball movement that would cripple most Division I defenses. Flawless, crisp passing led to numerous open looks and is a treat for any basketball fan to watch.
The road does not get any easier. Knights Hall will play host to a pair of top 25 games this weekend, starting Thursday when #20 Kentucky Wesleyan comes to town for the “White Out.” T-shirts are expected to be given away at the door for the first game back with classes in session.
Saturday night will be the first Top 10 matchup in Knights Hall history as #8 Southern Indiana visits BU. The favorites in the West Division of the GLVC, the Screaming Eagles (insert a Craig T. Nelson in “Coach” reference) are 14-2 on the season.
Game time is at 8:00 p.m. for both contests, and be sure to get your tickets fast as Knights Hall only has a capacity of 2,600. Check back for another update on Bellarmine basketball next week.
