In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Angels star Albert Pujols says that he should be in the lineup when the season starts on April 1st. Albert had surgery on his right knee in October and has been working with the team this Spring Training. Pujols has been taking batting practice, fielding ground balls, and doing some light jogging to stay in shape for the upcoming season.

When asked if he would need to play in any games this preseason, Pujols told the Los Angeles Times, “None. As long as my body feels good, I’m ready to go. I’ve got 8,000 at-bats in the big leagues. I think I’ve got plenty.”

Mike Scioscia agreed with Albert’s sentiments by saying, “He’s probably being a little tongue-in-cheek, but he’s not going to need the 40 to 50 to 60 at-bats some guys need. He needs to see some velocity to try to get locked and in and get his balance. But as long as he’s playing by the middle of March, there’s no doubt he’ll be ready.”

Angels fans are hoping that Albert does not repeat his early season performance he did last year when he struggled to produce numbers that he did when he was in St. Louis. The Angels gave Pujols a ten year contract that was worth $240 million last season.  Albert started to get comfortable playing in Los Angeles toward the end of the season and hopefully his injury won’t make him lose any ground.
