ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Jan. 15, 2009)– Bellarmine suffered their first defeat of the season, in their first game as the number 2 ranked team in the nation. The Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis ended the Knight’s perfect season and 14-game winning streak by pulling a 70-69 upset last night in the Mark Twain Center on the UMSL campus. Bellarmine (14-1, 5-1) may have lost their opportunity for a perfect season, but the reality of a Championship is still well within reach.
The Tritons’ Alex Jackson hit the game winner with just 2.8 seconds remaining, and after a timeout, Bellarmine’s lengthy in-bounds pass was intercepted to seal the win for UMSL. Go here for a complete rundown of the game’s action.
Bellarmine continues its road trip with a 4 p.m. tip against GLVC West-leading Rockhurst University on Saturday. BU will return to Knights Hall on Thursday, Jan. 22, when they host Drury University at 8 p.m.
