UofL baseball sweeps South Florida, wins Big East title

The Louisville baseball Cardinals swept the South Florida Bulls on Friday to capture the school’s first ever Big East conference regular season championship. Playing a doubleheader today due to impending poor weather on Saturday, the Cardinals won game 1, then entered game 2 knowing what was at stake. In front of a regular season record crowd of 3,663 at gorgeous Jim Patterson Stadium. With the Big East conference title at stake, the Cardinals jumped on the Bulls early.

The game was essentially over in the bottom of the 1st as sophomore Phil Wunderlich cranked a GRAND YAK EM!!! to give the Cardinals an early 4-0 lead. Starting pitcher Bob Revesz made that lead hold as he went 7 strong innings giving up only a single run on a solo YAK EM!!! The Cardinals would add on all game as they eventually won the game 12-1. Junior third baseman Chris Dominguez, who will be a top prospect in the MLB Draft, continued his season long tear by going 2-5 with 2 RBIs and his 21 YAK EM!!! of the season.

The Cardinals finish the regular season 40-14 for the school’s first ever 40 win season. Louisville also clinched the top seed in next week’s Big East conference tournament. Coach Dan McDonnell is flat legit. The man takes over the Louisville program three years ago, his first year as a head coach by the way, and since has only compiled a 128-58 record, captured a Big East conference tournament title in 2008, and made the College World Series in 2007. This Louisville team is poised to make another run to Omaha. From all of us here at the Pinkie, big time congratulations to the UofL baseball Cardinals.
