Smith, Jennings to face further charges

In what can only be described as ‘not good’, Louisville basketball players Jerry Smith and Terrence Jennings are looking at additional charges for their actions this past Saturday night that led to them getting locked up for resisting arrest. It appears now the Jeffersonville police department is seeking charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct. I am going to withhold comment until they are officially charged. Regardless, I’d imagine Slick Rick will have his boys running for quite some time. Here’s the complete story from Fox41.com.

In the police report released Tuesday, investigators say an off-duty Jeffersonville officer and off-duty Harrison County Corrections Officers were working security, for the University of Louisville alumni gathering.

Hundreds of people were inside and on the patio area, when a fight broke out at the bar and moved to the front door.  The report says Jennings was shoving and pushing.  When officers tried to calm him down, he began fighting the officers, and one used a taser on him twice.

The report says Smith then approached, asking what he could do to help Jennings, he was told to leave, but refused. The report says Smith pushed one of the Harrison County officers, and after that he was arrested.

“I know it’s attracting a lot more media attention, I hope it will not be anymore harsher or anymore lenient than any other case we have,” said Stewart.

In a statement released Tuesday through his lawyer, Terrence Jennings offered an apology.  Jennings said he was minding his own business and was provoked and looks forward to showing everyone he’s a person of integrity.  Smith’s attorney says, the events that took place last Saturday are clearly not an indication of what they are, as people, students and athletes.

All of the charges, resisting law enforcement, battery on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct are misdemeanors.  Both players are due in court, next week.

Also, Terrence Jennings has issued an apology over the incident and says he was provoked by some person he did not know. Jennings also said he was not aware the people restraining him were off duty police officers. Here is the full story on Jenning’s apology from the Courier-Journal. Slick Rick has got some major things to think about.
