First off, I am well aware that Steve Kragthorpe is still the head coach of the University of Louisville football program. Whether there are moves to make during the season, only A.D. Tom Jurich knows. Still, you have to believe that candidates for the job are already running through Mr. Jurich’s thick head of hair.
We have heard a lot about former Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Jon Gruden. I am not sure how much weight rumors surrounding him actually hold. But, fans seem excited about him even though he has not coached at the college level since he was the wide receivers coach at the University of Pittsburgh in 1991.
Gruden started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at the University of Tennessee in 1988. Speaking of Tennessee, it is being rumored that former head coach Phillip Fulmer has some strong interest in the Louisville job, if it becomes available.
I am not sure of their connection, but it is being rumored that Fulmer has already been in contact with Bellarmine men’s basketball head coach Scott Davenport about the job. In fact, it is being said that the two of them are scheduled to attend some races at Keeneland this weekend, so Fulmer can pick Davenport’s brain on the city of Louisville and the university.
My sources are close enough to the Bellarmine basketball program to report this and believe it is true. I am not saying Kragthorpe is out. I am simply saying that Fulmer is definitely interested in the job if it becomes available.
Miller will have our preview of the Southern Miss game up Friday afternoon. It is a must-win for Kragthorpe and “The Ville”. If they fall, expect the “Kragthorpe is out” rumors to absolutely hit the fan.Powered by Sidelines
