Louisville, KY – Louisville quarterback Tyler Wolfe has decided to transfer at the end of the spring semester, the school announced Thursday afternoon. Wolfe is likely to go to an FCS school so he can play immediately next season and not sit out under NCAA transfer rules.
Wolfe came into the spring viewed as one of the top potential replacements for Hunter Cantwell. When spring drills began, he took the first-team reps.
But as practice went on, he fell behind junior college import Adam Froman and NC State transfer Justin Burke on the depth chart. In Louisville’s spring game last Friday, Wolfe was the fourth quarterback in, behind Burke, Froman and Zack Stoudt.
Wolfe was the only quarterback on the roster who had taken snaps in a game for the Cardinals. He appeared in two games last season, going 2-for-4 for 14 yards.
“I’m sorry to see Tyler leave our program,” head coach Steve Kragthorpe said in a prepared statement. “He is a solid person, and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
