- Arizona did begin using “Bear Down” as their motto in 1926 in memory of the last words of John Salmon, the team’s starting QB, catcher and student body prez who died that year from a spinal injury suffered in a car crash.
- However, as a fight song, the Chicago Bears’ was written in 1941, whereas Arizona did not have “Bear Down” as a song until 1952.

I would sum it up this way:

- most teams who have won 30 or so games are due for a loss; it would have been well for Louisville to have dropped a game before the Dance
- Arizona dropped SO many games before the dance that they no longer have anything whatsoever to lose. Accordingly, they are going to play without fear, and that is something any other team should fear….unleashed talent
- If Kyle Fogg steps up as much as he has then Lousiville is FINISHED and AZ will make it to the championship game; if Fogg doesn’t and anyone of the big three (Hill, Wise, Budman) has an off day then AZ is finished….sad to say

Nowhere or no way did I state Arizona doesn’t have a chance. They most definitely DO have a chance. They are a talented team, and could beat anyone in the Dance.

That said, whether they win or Friday or not has no bearing on whether they belong in the Tournament. Their season resume was not deserving of an at-large bid, not at all.

Notre Dame would be a school I would say is in the same boat. Sure they have the talent and the ability to beat anyone, but their body of work over the entire season was not sufficient to earn a trip to the Dance….neither was ‘Zona’s.
