NCAA Baseball Tournament Field Set

The NCAA D-I baseball bracket and schedule for the Regionals were set yesterday. The Texas Longhorns received the #1 overall seed in the tourney and will open their tournament with Army, Boston College and Texas State standing in the way of the Super Regionals.
Louisville (44-15) did not receive one of the eight seeds available, which would have guaranteed they wouldn’t have to face the other seven seeds until the College World Series. However, the Cardinals will host their double-elimination Regional round, which includes Indiana (32-25, making their first appearance since 1996), Vanderbilt (34-25) and Middle Tennessee (43-16).
Not being seeded could foretell good things for the Cards. The only top national seed to win the College World Series since the field was expanded to 64 teams was Miami in 1999. No top-eight seed has won it all since Rice in 2003.
And if the Cardinals are looking for more motivation, they are never even mentioned in ESPN’s write up on the tournament….
The 16 regional winners will advance to play in the Super Regionals, June 5th-8th in a Best-of-three series. The eight Super Regoinal winners will then advance to the College World Series, which begins June 13th in Omaha, Nebraska.
