Louisville 2010 Recruiting Update

Jeremy Tyler. GONE! Justin Martin. GONE! And now that Fabricio de Melo has chosen the Orange of Syracuse over the Cardinals, where will Slick Rick and company turn to fill the remaining spots for Louisville’s 2010 recruiting class?

As of today, the Cards have just one commitment: Huntsville, Alabama four-star forward Josh Langford. Langford is a high-flying, high-energy guy who has been working hard to expand his game to include the perimeter this summer. He impressed scouts at the King James Tournament in Akron back in April, and so far appears to demonstrate all the attitude and work ethic necessary to excel in Pitino’s program.

That leaves three scholarships available for the 2010 class. Louisville has offered to four players: Tobias Harris, Rod Odom, J.J. Moore and Josh Smith.

TOBIAS HARRIS: Harris, a 6′ 8″ power forward from Long Island, New York, has already visited both Louisville’s and Kentucky’s campus and just finished competing in the Nike Global Challenge in Portland, Oregon. For the Pinkie’s report and details on Harris’ visit to UK, as well as information on our in-state rivals’ 2010 haul, check out Guy’s article HERE.

Harris’ list includes UofL, UK, Memphis, Maryland, Tennessee, Connecticut, Syracuse and Notre Dame.

ROD ODOM: Odom, a small forward from Concord (Mass.) Middlesex School, got his offer after Fab Melo decided to play for Jim Boeheim and the Orange last week.

Rod Odom

He is the 87th ranked player in the nation according to Rivals.com and plays a lot like current Cards, Jared Swopshire and Rakeem Buckles. At 6′ 8″ and only 195lbs, Odom has been working hard on adding strength and muscle to his thin frame. He is an excellent passer and has a very high basketball I.Q.

Odom’s other offers are from Boston College, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Harvard and West Virginia.

J.J. MOORE: Moore, a 6′ 6″ wing player from Brentwood, New York, saw his stock soar after a solid summer playing for the New York Panthers. He averaged 24 points and 10 boards as a junior. Moore has the size and athleticism to enable him to play either of the perimeter wing positions. He can shoot the ball well and has shown the ability to be an effective slasher when defenders force him to take it to the hole.

According to ESPN, Moore should be one of the major sleepers in the 2010 class.

Moore also holds scholarship offers from Marquette, St. John’s, Seton Hall and Rutgers.

JOSH SMITH: Smith is a longshot to be a Cardinal as most reports have the 6′ 10″ center leaning toward staying on the West Coast. He attends Covington Kentwood in Washington. During a recent camp in Las Vegas, Smith said UofL “is still in the mix.”

He is the number one ranked center and sixth best prospect overall, according to ESPN. He plays for the same AAU team, Seattle Rotary Select, as UofL freshman Peyton Siva.
