Former UofL defensive lineman and Ballard High School grad Earl Heyman has signed with the New Orleans Saints after working out for the squad last weekend. Heyman’s next step will be trying to make the Saints’ 53-man roster after the summer’s training camp.
Heyman was bounced around positions throughout his time at Louisville due to injuries of teammates and because of the coaching transition from Bobby Petrino to Steve Kragthorpe after his sophomore year.
Left off many draft boards going into the draft, Heyman worked out for New Orleans just last week during the squad’s mini camp. Following the weekend’s sessions, he was offered a deal by Sean Payton.
From NewOrleansSaints.com:
Heyman was a two-year starter at Louisville, where the 6-1, 289-pound defensive tackle was a solid contributor in the middle of the Cardinals’ defensive line all four seasons of his college career. Playing in 48 games with 29 starts, the Louisville native totaled 114 tackles (66 solo) with 10 sacks, 20 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries. He posted a career-high five sacks as a senior in 2008.
Also according to the Saint’s website, Heyman will wear number 66. Way to go Earl, and be sure to stay with the Pinkie as we track Heyman throughout his training camp experience.
