Courier-Journal: Masiello Passes Polygraph

The Courier-Journal is reporting Cards’ assistant coach Steve Masiello passed a police polygraph examination in which he said he was not involved in a scheme to obtain tickets for the 2010 Kentucky Derby. Most everyone knows the story at this point. A ticket broker named Scott Davis accused Masiello of failing to give Derby tickets to several people, then pocketing $50,000 of Davis’ money. Davis has been charged with attempted theft. Louisville Director of Athletics Tom Jurich issued this statement:
“Steve has been up front with us on this matter since it first surfaced and never wavered. We knew he was truthful, and his polygraph exam backed that up. He cooperated fully with law enforcement officials and can now hopefully put this behind him.”
This is good news for the Louisville basketball program. If Masiello had a more active role in this scheme, then I don’t see any way Louisville could keep him on the staff. If that were to occur, the Cards would need a new assistant/lead recruiter and now is not the time to have to make a hire like that.
In other Louisville news, I have been hearing more and more positive thoughts regarding the Preston Knowles situation. It appears the truth is closer to Preston’s version of events, but we are still in wait and see mode.
