The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that Wayne Blackshear, the highly ranked 2011 shooting guard, will need to be recruited more in order to honor his commitment to Louisville. He presented Cards fans with a nice Christmas gift when news of his commitment spread, but Blackshear has reportedly let other involved schools know that he’s still considering them.
There is a long list of programs that would love to have him (DePaul, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Marquette, Michigan State, North Carolina, SIU, Tennessee, Texas, UNLV and USC), so I’m sure there are plenty of coaches that will still be bothering him. For you UK fans that see “Kentucky” on that list, I wouldn’t get to excited, things have never really heated up there.
Anyway, UofL still obviously has the inside track, but it appears that more drama is ahead.
Update from Miller – I realize this sounds like a big deal, but it’s a non-story. All verbals from juniors, or all verbals in general, should be considered soft. There is still way too much that can happen between the verbal pledge and signing day.
Verbal commitments, in both football and basketball, are nothing more than dinner reservations. As of right now, Louisville is in great shape with Blackshear and there is no reason at this point to anticipate anything changing.
