WRAL (Raleigh): John Wall cited for breaking and entering

This might have something to do with the recent delays in Wall’s recruitment. I have no idea what the circumstances were in this situation, so I’m going to keep the speculation to a minimum. Whatever this turns out to be, it’s not a good thing.

Raleigh, N.C.Local high school basketball standout John Wall, one of the nation’s top uncommitted college prospects, has been cited with breaking and entering, Raleigh police said Monday.

Wall, a 6-4 playmaker, averaged 21 points, seven rebounds and nine assists for Raleigh Word of God Christian Academy this past season. He is the No. 1-ranked recruit in the country by both Rivals.com and Scout.com and among the last top players yet to commit.

Authorities said Wall, 18, was charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering in connection with an April 27 break-in at a home at 3924 Laurel Glen Drive in Raleigh.

An officer saw Wall leaving from the rear of the residence and was able to detain him, police said.

Two other people were also charged. Bria Renea Draughn, 16, was detained while walking along a nearby street. Reginald Leonard Jackson II, 17, was detained when he returned to the residence, police said.

Police said there was no forced entry at the residence and no indication that anything was taken from it.

**UPDATE**The more I hear about this story, the less of an actual story I think it is. The house that Wall and his two friends supposedly broke into is a home that was recently foreclosed on. This is likely a case of three kids looking for something to do and a police officer finding them out.

It’s not good press, but I do not believe this is going to have an effect on Wall’s relationship with UK. I have even heard that there was a pretty good chance that the story wasn’t even going to be printed at all. I don’t want to minimize the fact that this was not a good decision by Wall, but don’t make this out as anything more than it is.

Are you guys kidding me??? If this kid was looking at Kansas, Tennessee, Memphis, or any other school besides Kensucky you would be on his backside quicker than you hillbillies can say moonshine! Yet, since he is “considering” Kentucky you give him a reprieve… God, you all are the worst hypocrites in the world. Kentucky sucks!

  2. Guy says:

Yep, you’re probably right that we would treat this differently if he weren’t “considering” UK. We wouldn’t be writing about it on a UK blog. Besides, I’m pretty sure every other fan base would behave in EXACTLY the same way.

By the way, I’m going to take a stab and say you are a Memphis fan, and I’ve been wanting to ask a Memphis fan a question that I’ve been debating lately. When UK and UofL play eachother now, who are you going to root for? Memphis’ relationship with the Cards has deeper roots, but based on comments here on the Pinkie, there is some serious hatred for UK out there on the part of UM fans.

  4. UkDude says:

People should just get used to the fact that their fanbases could never match up to the intensity that the UK fanbase has. Fanbases are one of the main recruiting perks, and people are jealous that they don’t have quite the fanbase that we do… not even close.

With the negative press the UK fan base has received over the past few years since running Tubby out of town, I dont believe it to be a positive to most recruits. Opposing coaches can counter any arguement you make by saying things like, “they will turn on you like they did Tubby” or “they didnt give Billy Clyde a chance”.

Like it or not, recruits read more than the positive press that is spun on blogs and the Cats Pause.

  6. Guy says:

Luckily for UK, recruits these days commit to coaches and not schools or fan bases because there’s none better than Calipari.
