Samuels, Patterson Make Preseason Wooden Award List

University of Kentucky junior Patrick Patterson and University of Louisville sophomore Samardo Samuels are among 50 preseason candidates named Wednesday for the John R. Wooden Award, presented annually to the nation’s top men’s college basketball player.

Transfers, freshmen and medical redshirts are not eligible for the preseason list.

Samuels is one of 11 Big East players on the preseason list, the most of any conference. Three Big East schools – Connecticut with Kemba Walker and Jerome Dyson, Villanova with Scottie Reynolds and Corey Fisher and West Virginia with Devin Ebanks and De’Sean Butler – are among the nine schools with two preseason candidates.

Patterson is one of seven Southeastern Conference players on the list.
