Quick Jai Lucas Thoughts

I’m sure most have heard by now, but Jai Lucas has decided to transfer to Texas, and apparently UK did not make his final three.  I would have welcomed Jai if he did become a Cat, but in all honesty, I’m happy he decided to go elsewhere.  Playing time was a big concern for him, and I think that Coach Gillispie simply couldn’t offer him what he was looking for in that regard.

It’s easy to look at the first two months of this season and say point guard is a need going forward.  I don’t think there is any doubt that Lucas’ experience and consistency would have been an asset as Porter and Liggins struggled, but just because PG is a need right now, I don’t think that means it will be a need this time next year (which is when Lucas will be eligible).  By that time (assuming no outgoing transfers), Liggins will have gained a year and half of experience, Porter will be a senior, and GJ Vilarino (whose game is very similar to Jai’s, based on what I hear) will have a semester under his belt.

If UK is going to add any more players before next year, I really hope it’s another wing shooter (unless a DeMarcus Cousins-level stud is an option).  Jon Hood is going to help in that regard, but you really can never have enough of those, especially with how stacked UK is going to be in the front court.
