Poythress: Kentucky or NBA?
I know it’s a little early to be talking about the prospects of which Kentucky players will jump to the NBA or return for another year of school. Most can see Archie Goodwin already having one foot in the door of the NBA before the season started, and I believe he’s gone after this year. I don’t think Ryan Harrow will be on next year’s roster, either. I assume he will try the NBA, but I don’t believe that is a wise decision for his future. I would also be thoroughly shocked to see Nerlens Noel play another game in a Kentucky jersey. I loved watching him play, but the NBA is calling his name. If there is one conspiracy, it is Alex Poythress.
Poythress came into Kentucky with a lot of hype, just as any highly recruited freshman would. When you sign on to Kentucky, that kind of attention just comes with the territory. In the case of Alex Poythress, I think we all expected to see more out of him. He has shown glimpses of his potential, and sometimes he’s just a shadow in the lights. He doesn’t appear comfortable at this level, and definitely does not want to be “the” guy.
I’ve been hearing a few things around the web that suggest Calipari and staff may be trying to convince some of these guys to return for another year, specifically Alex Poythress. I’m sure the staff is planning on life without Goodwin, Harrow and Noel, but what about Poythress? His mother is a strong believer in her children getting their education, and Alex’s sister is also studying at UK. The combination of Coach Cal, his mother/sister, and a little self reflection could keep Poythress in Lexington for another season.

Harrow in the NBA ?!?! No offense, but you must be kidding. Frankly, the only player(s) I see ready to make the jump are Nerlens and possibly WCS. I expect Harrow to transfer. I expect Poythress and Goodwin back unless they are content to go in the second round.
