NCAA Infractions Committee wraps up short hearing, Memphis now waits

It was expected that the NCAA’s hearing today in Indianapolis exploring allegations against Memphis basketball would last all day. It turns out that it barely made it past noon.
We really know very little about the proceedings and its tough to say whether Memphis was able to present a tenable case against any penalties it may face in connection with the allegations of an invalidated SAT score by Derrick Rose and some illegal travel benefits for his brother.
John Calipari did participate in the hearing via teleconference from China, but again, we don’t know much more than that.
Jerry Tipton live blogged from the hearing today, but was unable to spectate during the hearing itself. The participants did file by after the conclusion of the session and Tipton reported the following statement from Memphis’ legal counsel on behalf of the school’s president, Shirley Raines:
“. . . We believe we were able to fully answer the Committee’s questions and present the actions that we have already taken based up our internal investigation,” Raines said. “. . . We are hopeful that we will receive a favorable decision.”
All that is left to do now it wait. It’s expected that a decision from the NCAA will come within 6 to 8 weeks. John Calipari has been told he is not at risk, but I will feel much better about all of this if Memphis is not penalized.
