NBC Miami: John Wall to decide between UK, Miami

NBC MIAMIDespite odds longer than a full-court buzzer beater, Frank Haith and his hardwood Hurricanes might actually be one of the finalists to land the nation’s best high school player.

John Wall, the nation’s consensus no. 1 recruit is said to be considering lacing up for UM – a coup almost as big for the ‘Canes as Wall declaring them the lucky recipients of his services.

A source close to Miami’s program has said that during Wall’s recruiting visit to Coral Gables last week, the 6’4″ guard from Raleigh’s Word of God Christian Academy told Haith his decision would come down to Kentucky and Miami, according to Jorge Milan of the Palm Beach Post.

Naturally, recruiting whispers come buried under a pile of salt. And the news differs from the 19-year-old’s public statement that he will whittle his options down to three or four from Duke, North Carolina State, Baylor, Kentucky, Miami, Florida, Kansas and Memphis any moment now.

No word on whether this news came before or after North Carolina Central got involved…yes, I am kidding. Wall’s visit to NC Central is nothing more than a courtesy to the school. It will give them some publicity, and fresh off of a move to Division I basketball, they need as much of that as they can get.

    Is this seriously true???

  2. Guy says:

I honestly don’t know. I’m convinced UK will be in final 2, but as for Miami, I’m not sure. After you get a kid on campus, there’s always some optimism about getting the recruit. I don’t know whether this is an example of that or that he is seriously interested.

  3. UKDude says:

Well, it would be very nice if he would visit UK, because it has me very concerned that he would visit NC Central before us.

  4. Guy says:

This doesn’t worry me so much because the reason he wants to come to UK has little to do with the school, moreso to do with the coach. No one else has Calipari (not even NC Central). Besides, Wall did visit UK for Midnight Madness last year, so he has an idea about the school. I think he has all the info he needs to make a decision, it’s just a matter of pulling the trigger.

i agree, im still a bit concerned about the non-UK visit. and in that interview on here a couple weeks ago when asked about what schools he was considering, he listed like 7 and i guess just forgot Kentucky.. but that worried me too.

also i really dont understand the whole dragging it out. what does JW gain from that? especially with Bledsoe to probably decide before JW, and our scholarship situation as it is already it would be a lot better for UK for him to decide already. But I guess if Cal really does want both it doesn’t matter anyway.

and for everyone always dissing Perry Stevenson, that dude has improved SO much year by year and got a lot better at dribbling this year.. people saying he won’t play at all next year are out of their minds.

I’m telling you, it’s all about hype for Wall. He is getting SO much publicity right now with this whole thing. By the time next season rolls around, everybody is going to know his name. Plus, this gives him time to see how the NBA Draft early entries play out.
