MCA: Memphis charged with major violations under Calipari

Well, some of our readers have expressed concern over this very thing. And here it is:
The Memphis men’s basketball program has been charged by the NCAA with major violations during the 2007-08 season under former coach John Calipari, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported on Wednesday.
The allegations include “knowing fraudulence or misconduct” on an SAT exam by a player on the 2007-08 team.
The wording of the report indicates the player in question only competed during the 2007-08 season and the 2008 NCAA tournament. The player’s name was redacted in the report due to privacy laws, The Commercial Appeal reported.
If the NCAA allegations are proven true, Memphis might have to forfeit their NCAA-record 38 victories and Final Four appearance.
The report does not include allegations of lack of institutional control, meaning Memphis would likely avoid serious penalties that would have an impact on the program going forward. The report includes no allegations that would have occurred during the tenure of Josh Pastner, either as an assistant or head coach.
Memphis received the notice of allegations Jan. 16 and is scheduled to appear before the NCAA Committee on Infractions June 6.
Calipari left Memphis for Kentucky on March 31. The NCAA has requested his presence at the hearing, although he is not named in the report.
It is also alleged that Memphis provided $2,260 in free travel to road games for an associate of a player, The Commercial Appeal reported. The NCAA is charging Memphis with a failure to monitor.
“We take it very seriously. We don’t condone it,” athletic director R.C. Johnson told the Commercial Appeal, who declined to comment in detail about the allegations. “We’re doing a thorough investigation.”
Once more it appears Coach Cal will escape any sanctions being levied against him. However, while this report doesn’t implicate, directly or indirectly, any wrong-doing on Calipari’s part, this would mean that BOTH of John Calipari’s Final Four teams would have been forced to forfeit their season. Obviously there is a disconnect somewhere, and let’s hope that disconnect doesn’t lead to a re-run of the below cover…. Guy will be along later with his thoughts.

HAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHHA!!!! And the saga continues with Mr. Calipari. You people at UK better be ready for it. You already have 3 possibly 4 with eligibilty issues going into this year alone at UK… You think the NCAA won’t be all over your greasy coaches backside! enjoy your ride Kentucky. Barnhart is an idiot. One time with issues that follow a coach, shame on you. Two times an issue with a coach, shame on me. What can you guys say when it bite you guys in the butt with MAJOR LACK OF INSTITUTIONAL CONTROL ISSUES. At least at memphis they aren’t considered major or hurting the program going forward… You should re-think the way you report this. At the worst Memphis will have to concede their Final Four in 07-08 and wins that season. No talk of post season bans or scholarships revocations have been mentioned. And you morons hired this guy thinking he will “save” your program… Again, model your program after legit title contenders i.e. Duke, UNC, Kansas etc.
And by the way if you read the report… Calipari’s name and possibly someone on his staff at that time name’s have been redacted. This can and possibly will come back to haunt Calipari at UK. Have fun all you wildcat fans… great hire hahahaha

Wow. You really are gay. I think you need a reality check. Coach Cal’s name was mentioned nowhere in these allegations, so you can still bank on whatever team you root for getting rooted by uk next year if we play you guys.
[...] The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported Wednesday night that the University of Memphis is in the process of responding to major NCAA violations regarding its men’s basketball team during the 2007-08 season under John Calipari. [...]
Ukdude, you honestly are a moron… If there was no interest in John Calipari why is he having to show up at the hearing? If there is no interest in John Calipari, how come this is the second time an infraction has incurred under his watch that he has had to address? If there is no interest in John Calipari, why won’t he address it? You think the NCAA won’t be following John Calipari’s every move while at UK… if you think otherwise, you give an a bad name to a fan base that is already close to the bottom of the barrel in intelligence. If this was any other school you hillbillies would be on this like white on rice as you people say. Just goes to show your hypocracy (Im sure most of you will need a dictionary to understand the meaning of that word.) You have one player that has been charged with a crime and has eligibility questions and 3 other plays with those same eligibility questions. You are still 2 players over the legal limit and have to “force” two more out possibly, and you think the NCAA won’t be watching this? You people are crazy and as the name states, “need a reality check.” You mess with fire and your going to get burned…. Check UMass, Memphis, and in monitary terms check the New Jersey Nets…
