Final – Blue 57, White 46
John Wall finishes the game with two slams, one on the wrong end. Probably the first that time I have seen the crowd follow a dunk on the wrong end with a cheer.
2nd Half – 3:54 – Blue 43, White 32
Wall finds open lane for easy bucket. Terrible defense.
Bledsoe finds Orton for a lob, Orton finishes it with one hand. The crowd kind of liked it. A couple plays later, Bledsoe pump fakes and goes right from left corner, tries to finish with one-hand dunk, but it goes off back rim.
I think I’m pretty much done unless something crazy happens. Going down in a bit to act like a real journalist.
Guy will be here later tonight with a full recap.
2nd Half – 7:30 – Blue 31, White 28
Miller scored on four of five possesions after scoring only once in first half.
Wall gets into the lane and hits a wide open Patterson for three. SCARY!
Dodson and Hood both hit another three. They are impressing me a bit with outside shooting. They shot 6-for-19 in the first half. Of course there are no hands in faces at all.
Liggins picks up his eighth fool. Unreal.
Fans just booed the rafs for a Wall carry. Only at UK.
Beautiful. Hood finds Cousins at elbow, Patterson reads the play and goes baseline for easy dunk. That is pretty, pretty basketball.
Ron Mercer on big screen, gets an ovate. He is back in school at UK.
2nd Half – 11:45 – Blue 20, White 18
Hood makes nice move off of inbounds to score and Cousins makes nice move underneath.
Wall penetrates and scores on Liggins. Liggins is called for foul on the play, his seventh of the game.
We have seen some half court sets the last couple of possessions. They are running Dribble Drive, but not exclusively. Big man is playing on the side of the ball on some possessions and setting ball screens, this is not DDM. The key to see if they are in DDM offense is the big man. If he is opposite the ball and they are four-out-one-in, it’s DDM. You want the lane open for penetration.
Hood with three from top of the key, the kid is impressing me.
Joe B. Hall gets a nice ovation.
2nd Half – 15:58 – White 10, Blue 8
They Greg Maddux’d it and changed up the teams at half. Biggest switch is Wall and Bledsoe are opposite of each other. It will be interesting to see if they can keep in front of each other.
Harris connects on third three of the game, even though he faded away a bit on it.
Blue – Orton, Wall, Patterson, Hood, Harris, Dodson White – Miller, Stevenson, Harris, Bledsoe, Cousins, Liggins, Krebs
1st Half – Halftime – Blue 49, White 27
Bledsoe is fast. He’s real fast. He gets ball in transition and is a little out of control, takes bad shot. Next possession he finds P-Double on the lob.
Speaking of P-Double, this stretch belonged to Patterson and he showed why Calipari believes he is playing the best basketball of his life. He is playing away from the basket and it’s kind of scary. He gets ball in transition and has very athletic up-and-under, connects on three from left wing and finishes the half with a a right hook at the buzzer. He is in ridiculous shape.
He finished 7-for-9 in first half with 15 pts and 5reb.
Blue is dominating, but the teams are kind of confusing to me. White finished the half, playing primarily with guys from last year’s squad. Krebs, Harrellson, Harris, Stevenson and Liggins are playing together and are joined by Hood. Hood is proving to already be the best scorer of the group. He is not intimidated at all.
If Hood is open, he is pulling.
Hood and Harrellson with 12 shots each in first half.
1st Half – 4:54 Update – Blue 35, White 23
Interesting to see Stevenson, Harris, Harrellson, Liggins and Hood on the court together. Harris has hit a couple of threes but they are getting most of their offense from Hood. Two possessions after a terrible entry pass from Liggins to Harrellson, Liggins gets in the lane to find Harrellson, who is blocked. Announcer also jokes that Liggins has already fouled out.
Wayne Turner’s on the big screen, Carl H’s fave, he gets a big ovation. Remember Duke-UK 1998, the kid was an absolute beast.
1st Half – 7:31 Update – Blue 28, White 20
Bledsoe with nice penetration in transition and finds Patterson.
Following a nice block by Orton on Harrellson, Ramon Harris connects for three. They are shooting pretty well from deep.
Hood shows some ability to get the ball to the elbow, pump fakes, dribbles left and connects. He is not scared.
Wall gets to rim, nobody blocks out Orton, easy put back slam.
Liggins picks up his dribble deep and throws ball away. We saw that plenty last year.
1st Half – 10:18 Update – Blue 26, White 15
Jon Hood has absolutely zero chance of keeping Wall in front of him.
Remember I said this team is going to need shooters. Mark Krebs, or Guy’s boy, just connected on a trey from the right wing. Dodson has just scored on three strait possessions, two threes and a nice take. Harrellson connected from the corner, his foot was on the line. These are the guys who are going to be forced to score from the perimeter.
Showed Tony Delk and Scott Padgett on scoreboard, nice applause
1st Half – 14:24 Update
Starters – Blue team – Miller, Wall, Cousins, Patterson, Bledsoe White – Dodson, Hood, Stevenson, Orton, Liggins
I know you’re sick of hearing it, or maybe your not, but John Wall is a freak. Second possession he stop and goes it to the rim. He has had a couple sick dunks in transition and has hit both Darius Miller and DeMarcus Cousins on lobs.
Patrick Patterson looks like he spent some time in the weight room. He is playing away from the basket and took the ball to the hole from the right wing but didn’t finish. Oh and I thought they didn’t run screens. They ran one to free up Patterson on the left block.
Josh Harrellson hit a 12-footer, they are going to need shooters. Darnell Dodson missed a wide open three. If teams find ways to keep them out of the lane, this could be where they struggle.
A lot of easy buckets in transition. I would to see them get into some half-court sets. Not sure if that is going to happen tonight
