LEX18 (UPDATED 6:32 PM) – Sources have confirmed to LEX 18 that John Calipari has accepted an offer from Kentucky to become the next men’s basketball coach for the Wildcats.
An earlier report by WMC-TV in Memphis said that Calipari will take over at UK and will bring his coaching staff, as well as at least two current Memphis players, with him to Lexington.
WMC’s Jarvis Greer said that a “reliable source” told him that the two Memphis players who will transfer to UK are Wesley Witherspoon and Robert Sallie.
There are reports that at least two members of Calipari’s top-rated recruiting class for next season, who have verbally committed to Memphis but have not signed letters of intent, may also follow him to Kentucky. They are 6-10 forward DeMarcus Cousins, and point guard John Wall, who has not verbally committed to Memphis but is considered likely to sign with Calipari.
I’m not calling it official until I get a UK release and an ESPN story, but we’re pretty close!!!!!!!
Also, both the Memphis Rivals Site and Larry Vaught, of amnews.com, are reporting Calipari to Kentucky to be official.
AM News – Sources have confirmed that the University of Kentucky has reached a deal with John Calipari to be the Wildcats’ new basketball coach.
No official announcement is scheduled today according to UK officials , but sources indicated Calipari will sign a $4 million per year contract anywhere in length from seven to 10 years.

According to MyFox Memphis, the University of Memphis is already looking at possible replacements for Calipari. According to this article, their first choice is going to be Mizzou’s Mike Anderson. Anderson coached against Calipari in the C-USA, while head coach at UAB.
**UPDATE**This is why I didn’t want to call anything official until it became official. The word in Memphis from WHBQ is that Tiger boosters are not going to go quietly, and are going to try to match the Godfather offer that UK already offered. I’m a wreck right now…
