Let’s play a little game

Before Jodie Meeks performance against Ewe-Tea, there was quite a bit of clamoring among the UK fanbase over the lack of attention that Jodie had been getting from the national media.  He was barely mentioned in the All American conversation and completely ignored when people brought up candidates for National Player of the Year.

Then, Tuesday night happened.  There was a full on media blitz, as the entire sports world was abuzz over this guy for UK who had averaged under 10 points a game for his career entering this season.  Now, you can barely mention names like Griffin, Curry, Hansbrough, and Harangody without throwing Meeks’ name in.

Invariably, some cynics are going to question whether Mr. Meeks deserves this kind of attention, whether the performance is a mere blip.  We, as UK fans, of course know this to not be true (even though we also note Patrick Patterson deserves some more praise, too), but for anyone who doesn’t quite believe the hype, I offer up this statistical comparison:

Mins Pts Rebs Assts TO A/TO Stls Blks PF FG% FT% 3P% PPS
Jodie Meeks 2008-2009 33.4 25.9 3.6 1.9 2.8 0.69 1.5 0.1 1.9 0.479 0.914 0.444 1.58
??? ??? 37.1 26.8 2.0 2.6 2.5 1.06 1.4 0.1 1.5 0.470 0.863 0.421 1.50

I have left the name and the season off of the second set of stats to see if the stat hounds out there can guess who they belong to and when they were achieved.  A couple hints: this 2 guard got LOTS of attention the entire season and was on the very short list for National POTY.  Can you guess who it is?
